Hip Hip Hooray

Please excuse my sense of humor. I was grasping at strings to think of something creative!

I took Brian to therapy today...Tye calls it TOR-a-PEE. He was in a lot of pain, despite the pain medication, which is over 4x the level it was 4 weeks ago. He could not stand any movement of the left leg, and the therapist was concerned that maybe his hip was fractured, based on how he winced in pain. Dr. Anderson and I had just decided yesterday to go ahead with an xray to see what is going on, we just didn't have it scheduled yet. So I just went ahead and had them xray at St. Francis. Dr. Golightly got it all ordered and Brian got right in. The radiologist was out of the building, but Dr. Golightly looked at the slides and said there were no fractures, no spots of any kind on the bone. He said of course they would do a radiology report, but he was pleased with the quality and angle of the pictures, and felt confident that what he saw (or actually didn't see) was what the radiology report would also state.

This was a relief to know that the beast has not spread to the bone. We still don't have any answers to what is causing his pain, but it was great to rule out that possibility, which was one of the most concerning of all the possible causes. I am alternating heat and ice today to see if that helps, as his leg is also swollen and has been for about 2 weeks now. The swelling leads us to believe this is something related to the other damage he has in his hip and leg from previous surgeries and radiation, especially since the lymph edema is acting up. I can only hope that is what is causing it, yet there seems to be no relief if this is the culprit. Please continue to pray for Brian, as the pain is really wearing him down.

On a good note, we have graduated back up to only needing one person to lift and transfer him. He's giving me quite a workout, but so far, so good. He is really working on being positive and trying to help with his arms more, and that has made it all a little easier.

Here's hoping for a quiet weekend,
Jenni

I, too, suffer from lymphedema. Is Brian wearing a compression stocking? Does he do any type of manual lymph drainage? I have received alot of relief from both of these.
