Short update today...
We had a great weekend in Council Bluffs for the Eickholt reunion. It was nice to be out of town and have nothing to do but enjoy the day. The kids had a great time. My sisters and their families were both not there, one for advanced pregnancy and the other for a Mary Kay meeting in Dallas. I missed having them both there and Tye didn't have Tori and Zeke to play with. The weather was hot, but not miserable, which made for a good time.
We got back in time for the kids to go to Vacation Bible School. They will go each night this week, and they had a great time last night.
When I got the mail, there was a letter from the Heartland Lions Eye Bank. Hmm. I wondered what they would have to tell me. Inside was a correspondence letter from one of the recipients of Brian's corneas. The eye bank had sealed the letter in an envelope, and I could just send it back to them if I didn't want to receive info, or I could open it...of course, I opened it! I was actually excited. I think it really comes from the fact that Brian was so relieved to know that something of his body was worth keeping, and it makes me feel so good to know that I did what I could on my part to make that happen, and that it has been successful. It was a brief note...the author thanked us for the gift of sight, saying that she was not able to see out of her left eye, and now she can. She was hoping that we would respond so she could know more about the "angel" who gave her this gift. The kids and I will write her back and correspond through the eye bank to remain anonymous.
The letter caught me off guard. It is amazing to think that a perfect stranger is out there giving thanks for the life of Brian Halley, for being blessed by his existence, as I do every day.
