Let's Go Racing Boys!

Daytona 500...ahhh! The start of the racing season! Todd, Jamie and Trace came last night and brought Tye home, in hopes of missing the ice and snow. That turned out to be a good idea because this morning the roads weren't too great to be driving on. They made brats and rotel, and I cooked the delicious meatballs from the freezer...thanks Cathy! Now that Brian is fat and sassy, he is reclining in the chair and waiting for the green flag.

I took Amberlea out for dinner last night, and the folks at La Bonita had her wear a sombrero and they say to her in Chinese...at least that is what she told Brian when she got home! He was trying to figure out if she ate at the Mandarin, or what! I arrived home to alarms going off on the pump and a display reading "high pressure". We are under a lot of pressure around here, but not enough to show up on that display! I tried all that I knew to do from earlier in the week when this happened, and I had to call the hospice nurse to come. She treked her way into town in the rain, and was here for a few hours. She reaccessed his port a few times, and still couldn't get it to flush. Another nurse came, and it worked that time....for a few hours. Around 1:30 a.m., the alarms started going off again, and I couldn't get it to stop for longer than a few minutes. I clamped him off and shut the pump down, and called the nurse again. Brian insisted that she not come back to town, and that we could take care of this in the morning. She was more than happy to come, but Brian was resting comfortably, and he felt it could wait a few hours. She called the pain management doctor, and he returned her call early this morning, saying that he couldn't diagnose this problem over the phone, obviously. He wants to see Brian in the morning first thing to do an xray, and possibly take him back into surgery if necessary.

Brian has been comfortable all night and all day with the help of some long acting meds, and going to St. Joe is not necessarily a bad thing, more of an inconvenience. He doesn't really feel any differently than he did all last week, feeling pretty decent. We agree that he has been so much better off since they put the pump in, and it would be better to continue with this plan. I think it will be nice for him to get out of the house!

We're having a going away party for my brother tonight, as he leaves for Austria on Wednesday morning until July. He was born at the end of my 7th grade year, and I feel older and older when I see him nearing the end of college!

Boogity, Boogity, Boogity,
Jenni
