Brian battled a headache on Friday evening, but it went away. Saturday morning was good, other than the fact that it took one heck of a razor to even attempt to shave his beard. He needed to get cleaned up for our family pictures, and it was a deal, with all his white hair (they are coarser). We got him all fancied up in time for the photo shoot, and the whole family looked great! Brian was pretty sleepy during the pictures, but did well.
By about 5 p.m., he was battling another headache like the one on Friday, but worse. His neck was also hurting. He slept all evening. He did sleep all night, but when he woke me this morning at 7:30, he was really in some pain. His head was just throbbing, and he can barely turn his neck, plus his back was hurting. The hospice nurse came to check things out. After several calls, they raised his epidural morphine by 30% and increased the oral as well. There are several suspects in what is causing this...maybe the Ritalin, which he started on Friday, but this is not likely the culprit; maybe the tumor at the top of his spine at the base of his skull, which would maybe explain his neck rotation issue; maybe just the pain being out of control; or maybe and likely the fact that he lost some spinal fluid when the pump came unattached, which could really cause a headache and back and neck pain. Hopefully this is what happened, as it will go away easily. The nurses will reevaluate him tomorrow.
His Grandma Halley came today, along with Joni, Rog and Dallas. Brian was zonked for most of their visit, but did wake up for the end of the Colts/Chargers game, and to chat. It was good to have them visit. Brian's parents went home this afternoon, and Phillip will probably come back midweek.
As for tonight, he is out of it again. I really enjoyed him being awake on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning, so I hope that returns soon. Physical therapy should start again tomorrow as well.
Hope you have a great week, full of productivity and spending time with loved ones...
