Disaster Averted

It is another quick post, as I'm losing power on my laptop, and it appears the port where the AC adapter attaches is shot. Who knows what that will take to get fixed!

Brian is eating! I have taken requests...yesterday Subway for lunch, kids pack from KFC for supper, bowl of cereal for breakfast today, and Taco John's for lunch. Yes, it sounds like we are just eating out! But I've offered to fix a ton of things, and he is just now starting to say things that sound good. It is nice to see him feeling better.

So for the disaster...it could have been a big deal. I thought he was awfully sweaty yesterday. It appeared to mostly be where the dressing was on his back. I thought the pump might be leaking, but I couldn't see anything, and he wasn't in excruciating pain, so I thought it might be ok. Last night I kind of wondered. He did take quite a bit more breakthrough pain meds yesterday, but again, he was somewhat comfy, other than the bedsore. I spent a lot of time giving him massages and scratching his back.

Sure enough, the pump had come detached, and the morphine was just leaking all over. Nice! The hospice and home health nurses were here from 9-12:30 today, at one point 4 of them. They got ahold of the pain management center and were able to be walked through setting this all up again. At one point, we thought we would have to take Brian to St. Joe, and he was feeling quite anxious. But it all got ironed out! Luckily, nothing had happened to the site where it entered his spine, so it was able to be dealt with here, with direction. By the time they changed his leg bandage and everything else, 1/2 the day was gone!

Even so, he is better. He started on Ritalin today to help him concentrate and focus, and also boost his appetite. Ritalin works differently in adults than children...Brian was wondering, knowing that kids often have a lack of appetite. This med will hopefully give him some pep.

Denise is coming today, and Phillip and Todd, Jamie, and Trace tomorrow. His grandma and some other family will hopefully visit on Sunday. A photographer is coming to the house tomorrow for family pictures, which will hopefully go off without a hitch.

Take care of yourself, and enjoy each precious moment.
Jenni
