The Trek for Home

The trek for home has begun. I haven't started packing the van just yet, but just the talk of being discharged is feeling pretty good. Brian is being switched to oral pain meds and a patch today to see what dose is needed, and they will keep the PC pump so he can still push it if he isn't comfortable. Hopefully, we will get to a good comfort level by tomorrow evening.

We are going to have our hands full. Brian will need home health to meet his needs, including iv antibiotics, bandage care, blood tests, home therapy, and other equipment (like a hospital bed). Not real exciting, but doable, and we know a lot of the home health nurses, so I feel comfortable that things will go well.

Brian is feeling progressively better. His blood cultures are still testing positive, but at a slower rate and not as many, so we are getting this taken care of too. Therapy will come today to work on strengthening his legs and arms.

The support group last night was full of discussion on how to handle the holidays. It was very insightful, and hopefully will help me be better prepared, and prepare our family better to meet the needs of Brian, and how we can all enjoy the holidays. We also discussed accepting help and asking for help. This has been a major issue for me, who has always been so independent. I feel like I have just lost all control of our family and our lives, our privacy and our independence...yet, I can't change that now because we need help. Still, I find myself trying to get used to what is coming next. I am trying to focus on just having Brian at home and being home with the kids, which will be worth it.

It is not for us to know, but to trust the One who does...
