I have always said that life goes on with cancer.
So Amberlea finally lost another tooth yesterday. I love the excitement in a child! She has always had crazy events with her teeth...pulled the first one with a string tied to a door, lost the second one on Christmas Eve and was amazed that the Tooth Fairy and Santa would come on the same night, and lost one when we were staying in a hotel. Last night seemed uneventful...she put the tooth in a glass of water like she always does...until the Tooth Fairy bombed out and forgot to visit last night. I was in the shower when she was pounding on the door and desperately saying...Mom, the Tooth Fairy didn't come. I am glad she couldn't see my face! I told her I would be out in a minute, and I was just racking my brain trying to figure a way out of this one. When I came out, she was downstairs in the laundry room. I brushed off my Tooth Fairy outfit, slipped two $1 bills under her pillow and raced back to my bathroom. Pretty soon, here she comes...I said, are you sure the Tooth Fairy didn't come? She said...yep. I said, surely she came, let's go look. In her room, she looked in the bottom of the glass. No money. We sat on the bed and talked about how busy the Tooth Fairy is. Then we talked about times when the Tooth Fairy came when I was little, how she forgot me once too! Then, as if someone whispered in her ear, she said...maybe she hid the money. I said...surely not! She said...let's look! We looked high and low. Then she said...you know, my pillows were on the floor this morning when I woke up, and I thought that was odd. She raced over and yanked the pillows off the bed, and there was the money! She was ecstatic, and especially because the Tooth Fairy left her tooth this time when she was trying to trick her. I love a child's imagination! Disaster averted!
So for Brian, he was very sleepy yesterday. We received word from Dr. Anderson that everything is a GO for the infusion in Columbia next Friday. Thank the Lord, and thank you for your prayers! We took Brian over to Lade's last night to spend some time in Rob's standing frame. This contraption allows Brian to sit down, then pump himself up to a standing position. He bears all of his weight on his legs, but it stabilizes him to keep him from falling. He was able to stay up for 30 minutes, and we will go back and do it again over the weekend. It was great to have him in an upright position, both for the benefit of his legs, and also for his back, his digestive system, and his lungs. Rob couldn't even move his legs at all when they first put him in a standing frame, and now it is just amazing how well he can walk. It really built his strength up, and we hope that will help for Brian. Thanks to Bob and Diane for being so helpful and sharing their knowledge with us to make things easier.
We are still going to Columbia on Friday to evaluate Brian's loss of appetite, his pain level and just overall health. I hope he feels better when he gets the blood transfusion tomorrow.
Pray, pray, pray.

Hi Jenni,
I've linked to your blog from MPIP and have been following Brian's story ever since. You're in my daily prayers in your battle against this horrible disease.
I had to laugh when reading about the "forgetful" Tooth Fairy. That happened to me more than once while raising my three kids. I once snuck back into my daughter's room and put the money under her bed and told her to go take another look, telling her that maybe somehow the money had fallen off the bed when she got up. Of course she found the money and the day was saved. It's amazing how fast we moms can think on our feet!
My very best wishes to your entire family.
Kathie
Hi Brian & Jenni,
In rearing our guys through their tooth-losing days, I discovered that the
Tooth Fairy is much trickier than one would think -- I'm pretty sure that almost every family has a story of a Fairy who put that money in a strange place, or who even took a vacation day and came the next day. I told my kids that I imagined there had to be Substitute Tooth Fairies (would they be Substitooth Fairies?) and they probably didn't know all the routines. I'm so glad you know how to enjoy these small treasure-moments!
best,
cheryl
