Anderson Cooper laughed off his recent removal of a skin cancer on his nose. His attitude brought mixed feelings. Should everything removed be blown out of proportion? On the other hand, don't downplay the seriousness of any skin cancer, and definitely don't joke about it.
Same for Sen. McCain. You are only going to find out that he had melanomas removed if you dig around because they are doing their best to cover it up. Whether he would make a good president is irrelevant to my point. My opinion is that he should not be treated as if his melanoma is a death sentence, as he very well might not see anything out of it again. But certainly don't downplay the seriousness. Melanoma killed my husband, so we think it is very serious. I guess my feelings are this...McCain (or Obama or Clinton, for that matter) could have had no history of melanoma, be in the White House, then be diagnosed...with any kind of cancer. Or be killed in a car wreck. McCain is in the position that he should be living his life. It is just the cover up or pretending it is not big deal that really gets to me.
In the melanoma world, Bruce Springsteen's longtime keyboard player, Danny Federici, died yesterday afternoon at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City after a three year battle with melanoma. He was 58. He had been with the E Street band since its origin, playing with Springsteen for 40 years.
